Open Call: Portals
Twelve emerging NYC-based artists present new works in painting, film, sculpture, and performance that draw on personal narratives and ancestral histories to explore themes of migration, colonialism, and environmental crisis. Through these portals, they examine identity, healing, and the power of generational memory.
The exhibition opens on June 27th and tickets are FREE with advance reservation. See the Shed's website for more details!

Boogie Woogie Wednesdays: Mozart for Munchkins
Get ready to jump, jive, and wiggle at our Boogie Woogie Wednesday Bash – a playful mashup of jazz, classical, and swingin’ rhythms sure to get the whole family moving! From Beethoven with a groove to boogie-woogie piano and toe-tapping jazz favorites, this high-energy concert introduces kids to the joy of rhythm, improvisation, and musical storytelling.
Perfect for tiny dancers, budding musicians, and grown-ups who love a good groove, this show features live instruments, interactive moments, and plenty of chances to clap, sing, and dance along.

ShopRite Kidz Cook: Berry Parfaits
Calling all young cooks! Join us to learn how to make berry parfaits. ShopRite Kidz is a caregiver-and-me program that introduces children to a diversity of foods, explains cooking concepts and helps build dexterity with cooking utensils.
Free with museum admission (free through Culture Connected).
Runs every hour starting at: 12pm, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm. Ages 4 and up.

Museum on Wheels: Coney Island
Head to Coney Island for City of Water Day, filled with engaging art activities cohosted by our new Museum on Wheels! Conceived in partnership with the Brooklyn community, this mobile museum can pull up anywhere in Brooklyn with touchable selections from our collection of teaching objects—plus plenty of fun. All ages are welcome to express your creativity and enjoy art-making, games, and giveaways.
Free and open to the public. Space is limited for all art-making activities; first come, first served.
In case of rain, this stop will be rescheduled to Sunday, July 13, 10 am–2 pm.

Climate Rock Puppet Party
Get ready for a fun and musical adventure with award-winning NYC climate-rocker and puppeteer Esther Crow! Kids will sing, dance, and cheer as they learn all about taking care of our Earth through exciting songs, silly dances, and catchy chants.

Boogie Woogie Wednesday: Hip Hop and Street Dance
Free Focus Dance is dedicated to spreading the uplifting power of Street Dance, and will present a live performance featuring a variety of dance styles including; Hip-Hop, Break Dancing, House, and Funk. An open group lesson in basic hip-hop will follow the show and everyone is encouraged to join!

Crazy Science: Dry Ice Discovery
Are you ready to see some magic? No tricks! Just science! Awesome scientific demonstrations to introduce participants to dry ice – a solid that does not melt into a liquid but instead changes directly into a gas!
Crazy Scientists will perform experiments to show kids that science is fun and interesting! Chemistry of colors, soap volcano, artificial snow, storm in a flask, scientific soda making, foggy grand finale and many more! Be ready to see lots of fun and interactive experiments!

MOCACREATE: Summer Sun Prints with Teaching Artist Yu Rong
The bright summer sun is out, and we’re loving it! Did you know you can use the sun to make art? Try your hand at cyanotypes, an early form of photography, with teaching artist Yu Rong! Use paper shapes, leaves, and more to compose your design. Then, let it soak up the sun!
This program is geared towards children ages 6-12, and will be done on a drop-in basis. It has been designed as a way to explore cyanotypes in a fun, creative way with informal guidance available from our teaching artist.
FREE! RSVP optional, but appreciated.

MOCAKIDS Author Meet & Greet with Livia Blackburne
Join author Livia Blackburne (I Dream of Popo, Rosemarked) for a Meet & Greet that is sure to awaken your sense of adventure! Follow along as Livia reads her new book Nainai’s Mountain, which tells the story of a young Taiwanese American girl who overcomes her fear of new places with the guidance of her spirited grandmother, who leads her on a mountain adventure full of delicious food, old memories, and new connections. Afterwards, we’ll get insight into the writing of the story and enjoy a hands-on activity sharing our own favorite places.
Best for children ages 4-8. Older and younger siblings are welcome. Book signing and purchase will follow the reading! This event is free and RSVP is recommended.

Summer Jazz
Stop by the Museum’s lobby for performances by some of the city’s most acclaimed jazz musicians, whose creative styles incorporate blues, roots, and international sounds. Presented in partnership with Jazz Foundation of America.

Storytime with Literacy, Inc.
Join guest hosts Literacy, Inc. (LINC) for an enchanting journey through the pages of books as they bring captivating stories to life in our interactive storytime. All ages welcome! Included with admission.

Boogie Woogie Wednesdays: Eastern European Music and Dancing
Get ready to move and groove as The Ensemble Barynya performers take you on a musical journey! Each dance tells a story and represents a different Eastern European culture, complete with colorful costumes and lively music. You’ll hear unique instruments like the domra (a fun, round string instrument from Russia), the guitar, and the accordion. It’s a celebration of music, dance, and culture – perfect for kids and families!

Movie Night: The Abyss
Kicking off a monthly lineup of ocean-themed films, July's event features The Abyss on the flight deck. Settle in for an unforgettable movie night under the stars. Bring lawn chairs, picnic baskets, and blankets to watch the film on a giant inflatable screen with stunning views of the Hudson River and city skyline. The movie begins at sunset.
Doors open at 6:00pm. Last entry is at 8:30pm (subject to early closure based on capacity). All guests must enter through the Welcome Center to receive a ticket before entering the Museum.

Onsite Astronomy Night
Don't miss a special, FREE Astronomy Night event at the Intrepid! Polaris Dawn pushed the boundaries of private space exploration by achieving the first commercial spacewalk, the highest Earth orbit ever flown by humans, and the inaugural use of advanced SpaceX's Starlink laser-based communications. Astronauts Sarah Gillis and Anna Menon will share insights from their record-breaking experience and what it meant to be on the front lines of a new era in human spaceflight.
Doors open at 6:00pm. Talk begins at 7:00pm, doors close at 7:30pm (may close earlier if capacity is reached).

Mind’s Eye: The Reach of Faith Ringgold
Mind’s Eye programming is for participants who are blind or have low vision. Join us for a tour of the current exhibition: The Reach of Faith Ringgold, who is a renowned artist, writer, and activist.
Visitors will also see works from the collection by European modernists such as Marc Chagall and Pablo Picasso, who inspired Ringgold, as well as contemporary American artists whose work reflects her legacy.

Free First Friday 7/4
On the first Friday of every month, Museum admission is free. Advance reservations are highly recommended. Visitors without a reservation will be admitted based on museum capacity. Tickets for Free First Friday are released two weeks before each date.

Museum on Wheels: Brooklyn Heights

Workshop: Art-Making in the Adult Literacy Classroom
How can creating art help adult literacy students reach their reading and writing goals? In this workshop, explore ways that students can use art-making to tell complex stories about history and themselves. Discuss a work in the American Art galleries and learn an art-making technique that you can bring back to the classroom.

Walk – in! Workshop: Diffused Designs (recurring event)
Get ready to be a color-mixing artist! Kids will use fun-shaped paper and bright markers to create their own masterpiece. Then – with a splash of water – the colors start to blend and swirl like magic! Watch as your artwork transforms into a cool tie-dye surprise. It’s colorful, creative, and tons of fun!

Teens Tuesdays
Teens Tuesdays are free programs for teens to expand their art-making skills and connect with other teen artists! Located in the galleries, the program includes sketching, upcycling, and other creative projects, guided by Educators and inspired by current exhibitions. Join us to build your art portfolio, meet other teen artists, or hang out with your friends! Teens of all experience levels are encouraged to join, including those new to art making.
FREE, open to all young people (ages 13–19), and no prior experience needed. Free museum admission, MetroCards, snacks, and materials will be provided. This is a drop-in program, but RSVP beforehand to save your spot for one or more sessions.

ASL Tour of Beatriz Milhazes: Rigor and Beauty
The Guggenheim welcomes visitors from the D/deaf community for an in-person American Sign Language (ASL) tour! Join us at the museum to explore our Collection in Focus exhibition Beatriz Milhazes: Rigor and Beauty.
This after-hours program will be led by educator Joyce Hom. We’ll begin with a tour of the galleries followed by a light reception and art-making activities in the education center.

Viewers who have a passion for space science can meet astronauts, scientists, engineers, and other talents through this monthly program that explores space-themed topics!

Printmaking Session: A New New Yorkers Program 6/22
We are thrilled to invite you to a special Basic Printmaking session as part of the New New Yorkers Program! Whether you’re a seasoned artist or a complete beginner, this workshop is perfect for you. This is a free of charge workshop for adults only. No previous experience or sign-up is required—just bring your enthusiasm and creativity.

Weekend Art: Summer Print Jam
Create prints using Legos in this free, all-ages workshop inspired by Breaking the Mold: Brooklyn Museum at 200!

Inclusive Pride Family Day: Celebrate YOU!
Families of all ages and identities are invited to celebrate Pride through hands-on art and storytelling activities. Guests will explore celebrations of identity aboard Intrepid and learn about the history of LGBTQ+ communities in the Navy.
All registrants will receive a social narrative in advance to help prepare for the event. Teens are encouraged to visit the Teen Corner to create art, hang out and make friends. Current and former service members and their families who pre-register are invited to enjoy a special Military Family Lounge, featuring light beverages and snacks.

Salakot Sweat Power: Family Tour and Workshop
In collaboration with Family Day join Abang-guard (Maureen Catbagan + Jevijoe Vitug) in a performative tour of their exhibition Makibaka, followed by a drop-in art workshop for families. Families can learn about and create a salakot, a traditional Filipino hat traditionally used by farmers.

MOCA TALKS – Subversities: Interventions in Queer Activism Past & Present
MOCA welcomes Daniel C. Tsang, a pioneering LGBTQ+ activist, for a special conversation reflecting on his fifty years of activism. During the 1970s, a time when discussing sexuality was rare, Tsang worked to ignite dialogue and increase visibility for LGBTQ+ Asian Americans. As an archivist, journalist, and scholar, Tsang remains at the forefront of advocacy.
In this program, Tsang will reflect on the evolution of LGBTQ+ rights, his contributions to activism, and the ongoing challenges faced by the community today. The conversation will be followed by a Q&A session.

Join us for FREE admission day (with pre-registration) in honor of Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the Confederate states. It celebrates the day that news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached the farthermost edges of the Union at the time.

MOCA Queer StoryJAM #4 – Pride
MOCA Queer StoryJAM returns for an evening of storytelling exploring pride! This program fosters understanding and strengthens connections across diverse communities by amplifying the voices of queer Asian Americans. Mycology Walk with NYMS
Discover the fascinating world of fungi and the mushrooms hiding in plain sight in our everyday urban spaces. Join us for our inaugural one-hour myco mini-foray in the Alice Austen House grounds and garden, led by New York Mycological Society amateur mycologists Maren Fossi, Misha Zitser, and Maya Han. Walk will be followed by a mushroom ID table in the garden. In the event of inclement weather, event will be postponed. Magnifying hand lenses will be provided. Beginners and all ages welcome.

Student Art Show
Come celebrate the creativity of our community at the BRAC Student Art Show! This special event showcases the artwork of students from our Spring 2025 classes, including MSCreate participants and Teen Project Studio artists. Family, friends, and neighbors are all invited to experience the vibrant talents of our young artists. Don’t miss the Artist Talk at 2PM, where students will share the inspiration behind their work. Join us in honoring the hard work and creativity of our Spring class students and the entire BRAC community!

First Saturday: Star-Makers
Join us for a lineup of trailblazing queer artists who shine across mediums, from film and music to drag and visual art! Inspired by Oscar yi Hou’s The Arm Wrestle of Chip & Spike; aka: Star-Makers, June’s First Saturday celebrates luminaries who forge constellations of connection among queer Brooklynites. Enjoy music, art-making, performances, and so much more. This program is free; registration is required and includes Museum general admission.

Chinese Theatre Works
Join us to explore the history of shadow theater while interacting with puppets from around the globe and learn techniques for designing, building, and operating shadow puppets. This workshop will focus on traditional on-screen shadow theater, contemporary OP (overhead projector) shadow theater, or a mixture of the two.

LGBTQ+ Museum Tour
To celebrate pride month, join us for a LGBTQ+ tour of the museum and our Queer Ecologies Project garden! We will take a deep dive into Alice’s photographs, close relationships and what was happening in queer history during Alice’s lifetime.

LGBTQ+ Teen Night
Celebrate art, queer activism, identity, and allyship in our 12th annual LGBTQ+ Teen Night! Created by and for teens, the evening will be full of art-making, performances, and much more. Free; registration is encouraged. Open to all LGBTQ+ teens and their allies ages 14–19.

Talks of the Town: Allegiance: Understanding Loyalist Staten Island
In 1776, while cities like Boston and Philadelphia celebrated independence, Staten Island remained loyal to the British and served as a key military base throughout the Revolutionary War. Join historian Dr. Phillip Papas and Historic Richmond Town’s Luke G. Boyd for a conversation exploring Staten Island’s Loyalist roots and what they reveal about America's complex path to independence.
