Museum on Wheels: Coney Island
Head to Coney Island for City of Water Day, filled with engaging art activities cohosted by our new Museum on Wheels! Conceived in partnership with the Brooklyn community, this mobile museum can pull up anywhere in Brooklyn with touchable selections from our collection of teaching objects—plus plenty of fun. All ages are welcome to express your creativity and enjoy art-making, games, and giveaways.
Free and open to the public. Space is limited for all art-making activities; first come, first served.
In case of rain, this stop will be rescheduled to Sunday, July 13, 10 am–2 pm.

Summer Jazz

Head to Brooklyn Heights for an afternoon filled with engaging art activities, hosted by our new Museum on Wheels! Workshop: Art-Making in the Adult Literacy Classroom
How can creating art help adult literacy students reach their reading and writing goals? In this workshop, explore ways that students can use art-making to tell complex stories about history and themselves. Discuss a work in the American Art galleries and learn an art-making technique that you can bring back to the classroom.
Free; registration is required. You will receive a secure Zoom link by email.

Weekend Art: Summer Print Jam
Create prints using Legos in this free, all-ages workshop inspired by Breaking the Mold: Brooklyn Museum at 200!
Free with Museum admission. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Juneteenth Jubilee
Celebrate Juneteenth with an afternoon of activities and music honoring self-expression, community, and Black liberation. Enjoy music, a poetry open mic, games, and crafting, and food from some of Brooklyn’s favorite Black-owned restaurants!

First Saturday: Star-Makers
Join us for a lineup of trailblazing queer artists who shine across mediums, from film and music to drag and visual art! Inspired by Oscar yi Hou’s The Arm Wrestle of Chip & Spike; aka: Star-Makers, June’s First Saturday celebrates luminaries who forge constellations of connection among queer Brooklynites. Enjoy music, art-making, performances, and so much more. This program is free; registration is required and includes Museum general admission.

LGBTQ+ Teen Night
Celebrate art, queer activism, identity, and allyship in our 12th annual LGBTQ+ Teen Night! Created by and for teens, the evening will be full of art-making, performances, and much more. Free; registration is encouraged. Open to all LGBTQ+ teens and their allies ages 14–19.

Art-Making and Breaking the Mold with Creative Practice Teens
Join our Teen Staff for an afternoon of all-ages art-making centering the new exhibition Breaking the Mold: Brooklyn Museum at 200! To culminate their yearlong internship, Creative Practice teens have stepped into the shoes of the teaching artists and created engaging art-making activities. As the Teen Staff showcase their art-education skills, enjoy a variety of multimedia projects that encourage reflection, curiosity, and play! Free; registration is encouraged.

Weekend Art: Sunday Art Hang
Bring the family to explore our galleries and exhibitions, from ancient Egyptian masterpieces to contemporary artworks! At this free drop-in program, you’ll look closely at an object and create art inspired by the work. This session's focus will be: Nancy Elizabeth Prophet: I Will Not Bend an Inch.

Weekend Art: Saturday Sketch Club
Draw inspiration from an exhibition curated and featuring art by our Teen Staff at this all-ages, drop-in program. With help from the teen artists, create your own sketches inspired by the works on view. Visit the Admissions Desk to pay what you can.

Teen Night: Centuries of Dreams
Dare to dream at this year’s third Teen Night! For the May edition of this teen-led program, celebrate Black American arts and culture while we explore joy as resistance and dreams as survival. This evening’s art-making, performances, and other activities are inspired by Toward Joy: New Frameworks for American Art, a kaleidoscopic display where you can give flowers, find a quiet place, strut the runway, and see American art with fresh eyes.

Art-Making: CCNY at the Brooklyn Museum
Drop by to enjoy an afternoon of free art-making, led by museum education students from City College of New York! Explore themes in our collection and experiment with materials as future art educators guide you through fun projects.

Workshop: Writing About Art in the Adult Literacy Classroom
Write art into your adult literacy curriculum! Join us for a workshop to examine how discussing and writing about art can support literacy in reading and writing. Consider how to use art in the classroom for storytelling and making personal connections. This workshop is for ESOL, GED, and basic education instructors and providers. FREE with advance registration.

First Saturday: Friends and Family
Bring your friends and family to May’s First Saturday, showcasing the vibrant artistry, rich histories, and recreations of the Asian American and Pacific Islander diasporas in New York.

Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra: Sublime Landscapes
Join the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra for Sublime Landscapes, conducted by David Bernard. Enjoy Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol, Copland’s Appalachian Spring Suite, and Brahms’s Symphony No. 3, showcasing the beauty and power of symphonic music. Free for ages 16 and under.

Teen Night: Solid Gold @ Brooklyn Museum
Join us for the second Teen Night of 2025, where art and activism shine through the theme of gold! Inspired by Solid Gold, an exhibition celebrating the beauty and impact of gold in art, fashion, and design, the evening will feature art-making, performances, and more.

Performance: Laura Ortman
Experience an immersive soundscape by violinist and composer Laura Ortman (White Mountain Apache). Presented in conjunction with The Brooklyn Artists Exhibition, Ortman’s work reflects on the concept of home. The soundscape incorporates recent field recordings from Brooklyn—captured between the Brooklyn Museum and her home on Flatbush Avenue—and blends them with live, improvised music featuring Apache violin, bells, whistles, voice, tambourine, and triangle.

Share the Toy: Fifth Annual Toy Drive and Giveaway
Spread the holiday cheer by joining our 5th Annual Toy Drive! From November 21 to December 15, drop off new, unwrapped toys for children ages 0–14 at the Admissions Desk.
On Sunday, December 15, from 11 AM–2 PM, pick up gifts for your little ones while supplies last. Remaining toys will be donated to local family shelters.
Free and open to all, in partnership with the Kinnect Foundation.

Holiday Market with Brooklyn Pop-Up
Visit our Holiday Market, cohosted with Brooklyn Pop-Up, and discover unique, handmade treasures from local artisans. Browse artwork, jewelry, fashion, home goods, and more! Enjoy caroling by a cappella group VocalSouL on December 21–22 from 2:30–3 PM.
